project

1. Define the term 'ergonomic', and list some different ways (at least 5) that an Mp3 player could be 'ergonomic

Ergonomics is the study of designing equipment and devices that fit the human body, its movements, and its cognitive abilities.
Ergonomics is employed to fulfill the two goals of health and productivity.
It is relevant in the design of such things as safe furniture and easy-to-use interfaces to machines.
Ergonomics is concerned with the ‘fit’ between people and their technological tools and environments.
It takes account of the user's capabilities and limitations in seeking to ensure that tasks, equipment, information and the environment suit each user.

2.  Conduct some background research into currently existing Mp3 player designs - put at least 10 pictures into your blog page.

3. On paper sketch three different ideas. Get some feedback from the other students in the class, and explain which sketch you have chosen, and why.

4. Find the google sketchup program in your computer, and start playing! You need to make a 3D image of your design, to scale - so leave the person in!

5. When you have finished your design take screen shots of the different views, and post them into the page in your blog. Make sure you also save the sketchup file in the right place in your documents.

The design process

What is design

Design as a noun informally refers to a plan for the construction of an object or a system (as in architectural blueprintsengineering drawingbusiness processcircuit diagrams and sewing patterns) while “to design” (verb) refers to making this plan.

Define brief

Key project planning document that specifies what theproject has to achieve, by what means, and within what time frame.

Define specifications

Exact statement of the particular needs to be satisfied, or essential characteristics that a customer requires (in agoodmaterialmethodprocessservicesystem, or work) and which a vendor must deliver.

What are resources in design?

Alright vector lovers, let’s turn on multiple-pages ‘eh! Adobe Illustrator is great, it’s my favorite program actually, but even with the new Artboards feature in CS4 it just doesn’t compare to InDesign for creating multi-page documents.

What is evaluation

Evaluation is the process of determining significance or worth, usually by careful appraisal and study.

What are key stages

Key Stage is a stage of the state education system in EnglandWalesNorthern Ireland and the British Territory of Gibraltar setting the educational knowledge expected of students at various ages. The term Key Stage is also used in Hong Kong although the ages at which each Key Stage applies differ from England.

Why is it important to do background research before starting a design project?

Background research is necessary so that you know how to design and understand your experiment.

Good and bad features of power points

good:
-room for a image
-the right amount of bullet points about 5
-font is about right
-easy to read
-font color contrasts well with background
-
-

-

bad
- to much information,to small
-you should not be writing in paragraphs
-no pictures
-too many bullet points
-not enough bullet points
-font is too large- it looks silly
-different font styles used for every word
-different colors
-difficult font to read on the screen
-colors chosen don't help to read
-only use one color for your text
-not enough contrasting colors
-small pictures
-too many images
-pixel lated pictures

White tiger

The existence of pure white Siberian tigers has not been scientifically proven, despite occasional reports of sightings of white tigers in the regions where wild Siberian tigers live. It is quite possible that the gene for white coating does not exist in the Siberian tiger population, since no pure white Siberian tigers have been born in captivity even though the Siberian tiger has been extensively bred during the last few decades. The wild Siberian tiger population nearly went extinct during the middle of the 20th century, so it is also possible that the Siberian tigers carrying the gene for white coating died out during this period. More research is necessary before scientists can fully understand the genetic makeup of the Siberian tiger

Compared to orange tigers without the white gene, white tigers tend to be larger both at birth and as fully grown adults.[1] In spite of their unusual coloration, their size can be advantageous in the wild. Heterozygous orange tigers also tend to be larger than other orange tigers. Kailash Sankhala, the director of the New Delhi Zoo in the 1960s, said "one of the functions of the white gene may have been to keep a size gene in the population, in case it's ever needed."[2]
Dark-striped white individuals are well-documented in the Bengal Tiger subspecies, also known as the Royal Bengal or Indian tiger, (Panthera tigris tigris or P. t. bengalensis), and may also have occurred in captive Siberian Tigers (Panthera tigris altaica), as well as having been reported historically in several other subspecies. White pelage is closely associated with theBengal, or Indian subspecies.
Currently, several hundred white tigers are in captivity worldwide, with about one hundred being found in India. Nevertheless, their population is on the increase. The modern white tiger population includes both pure Bengals and hybrid Bengal–Siberians, however, it is unclear whether the recessive white gene came only from Bengals, or if it also originated from Siberian ancestors.
The unusual coloration of white tigers has made them popular in zoos and entertainment showcasing exotic animals. The magicians Siegfried & Roy are famous for breeding and training two white tigers for their performances, referring to them as "royal white tigers", the white tiger's association with the Maharaja of Rewa.
Rewa Maharaja Martand Singh first observed male white tiger Mohan during his visit to Govindgarh jungle at Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, India. After hunting for months, he was able to capture the first living white tiger seen in nature. With help from official veterinary experts, he unsuccessfully tried to breed the white tiger with colored female tigers. Eventually, however, he succeeded in creating a second generation of white tigers. In time, it expanded around the world.

Habits: Unlike some big cats like lions, adult tigers like to live alone (except for mother tigers with cubs). This is partly because in the forest, a single tiger can sneak up and surprise its prey better than a group of tigers can.
Range and Habitat: The size of a tiger's territory depends on the amount of food available, and usually ranges from about 10 to 30 square miles (26-78 sq. km). Siberian tigers sometimes have really big territories (as large as 120 square miles). Although tigers usually live alone, tiger territories can overlap. A male tiger's territory usually overlaps those of several female tigers. Today only about 5,000–7,000 wild tigers live across Asia. The past and present ranges of the remaining five tiger subspecies are illustrated. The northernmost living tiger, the Amur or Siberian tiger, lives primarily in southeastern Russia. The South China tiger occurs only in southern China. The range of the Indochinese tiger extends across most of Southeast Asia. The Bengal tiger is found primarily in India, while the Sumatran tiger is restricted to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The Bali, Caspian, and Javan tigers have become extinct in the past 70 years.

White tigers are very rarely found in the wild. In about 100 yeas only 12 white tigers have been seen in the wild in India. They are almost extinct and most of the ones living are in captivity, mostly in zoos. This specific tiger is neither an albino nor a seperate subspecies of the tiger. They are beautifully white colored and have black stripes. It has blue eyes and a pink nose. It also has white colored fur. The white tiger is born to a bengal tiger that has the gene needed for white coloring. A pure white tiger has no stripes and are totally white.
